Why in 3 pin socket 1 pin have more cross sectional area ?

The pin with more cross sectional area is used for earthing  ( I.e. that pin is connected with earth wire) now the resistance required for earth wire is very less.

And also we know that resistance is inversely proportional to the cross sectional area of conductor. So in-order to keep the value of resistance low, cross sectional area of one pin is kept more.
