Why do birds don’t get electrocuted while they sit on power transmission/distribution line ?

Updated: Apr 28, 2020

Technically there are three reason why they don’t get electrocuted

  1. Electric current is basically the flow of electron. And it requires a closed path to flow. Birds when sit on line they sit on only one line(if phase line) then they don’t have any contact with return/neutral line and thereby don’t provide closed path for electron to flow.

  2. Current also flow from higher potential to lower potential.when birds sit on the same line therefore no potential difference created so current don’t flow through their body, but if birds sit on the line and somehow gets in contact neutral/ground line it will create a potential difference then they might get electrocuted.

  3.  Current flow through least resistive path, and birds sit on their feet which has very high value of resistance so current don’t flow through them. conductor being less resistive provide path let current flow through it.
