Current carrying capacity of the conductor depends on the resistance of wire used as a conductor.
Resistance of wire is given by
Resistance of wire for the same length, same material and same cross-section area if compared for solid core and stranded core then As observed from the above equation, resistance is inversely proportional to the cross-section area of the conductor. Therefore it can be said that resistance of the stranded conductor is more.
But current carrying capacity of wire also depends on skin effect moreover which is more observed in the solid conductor as compared to stranded conductor.
So it can be said that while working with AC, the current carrying capacity of Stranded conductor high.
NOTE. also check our another post skin effect.
