How to differentiate between the Current Transformer and the Potential Transformer ?

We can tell the difference between the Current Transformer (CT) and the Potential Transformer (PT) by just seeing them. Current Transformers are always connected in series with the power circuit just similar to the connection of an ammeter. That means it has 2 terminals. On the other hand Potential Transformers are connected in parallel in a power circuit, similar to the connections of a voltmeter. So it only has 1 terminal and the other terminal is grounded. So next time if you visit a manufacturing plant or a substation just focus on the terminals.
