How synchronous and asynchronous generators are different form each other?

Synchronous generators (alternators) can provide both active and reactive power. And asynchronous generators (induction generators) can only provide active power.

Synchronous generators can respond to the rapid change in the grid frequency as the frequency of generation is directly proportional to the speed of rotation. On the other side asynchronous generators cannot respond quickly to the rapid change in the grid frequency due to the presence of slip, so they are not directly connected to the grid.
